The 2017 Prosser Cup for Marlborough Harrier Club was held at The Hawkesbury Road circuit.

Weather conditions was excellent for this circuit. It went from warm to very warm within the race. It is a deceptive course where everyone thinks it is flat but has a vicious steady climb to the 1^st turnaround point.
This race had a sealed handicap where everyone received a handicap but not told what it was until the results were published. Kept everyone honest.

The running of the 36^th Queen Charlotte Relay between Picton and Havelock was run on Saturday.
Conditions for the day were ideal with rain during the debrief at Picton School then for the run going from overcast to fine and warm.
We had 7 walker teams competing leaving Waitohi Domain at 11.30am. We had 2 runner teams who had requested they leave with the walkers because their team was going to be slow.

42 runner teams took to the Queen Charlotte Drive leaving Picton 1pm.

Teams were mainly from Marlborough but we had one from Rangiora, one from Island Bay, 12 from Nelson.

It became quite obvious Athletics Nelson Senior Men team had decided they were going to challenge the field and also go below 2 hours – a time they had been challenging for the past couple of years running as Junior Men. Their time was 1 hr 59 min 47 seconds.

The Athletics Nelson Junior Men came in 2^nd in 2 hr 12 min 21 seconds.

Marlborough Harrier Club Senior Men came in third in 2 hr 12 min 45 seconds.

Our generous sponsors allowed us to offer great performance prizes for qualifying grades, fastest lap times all grades, excellent 21 spot prize bags.

As a special spot prize where we drew a lap number then a team number and whoever that lucky person was won a Trek Mountain Bike from Spokesman Cycles Marlborough This was won by Ashleigh Weaver in the MOB team. We asked her after the prizegiving if she already had a bike. She did but a real old one which she hated so the bike went to the right person who needed it.

Then we did the same for a family ticket of 2 adults with 3 children on the Pelorus Mailboat Havelock. This was won by Kenneth Leach of Blenheim. He does not have children or a partner so he has something to work on – Don’t tell Kay, his mother.

Marlborough Harrier Club held their Fairhall Road Race on the Ben Morven circuit on Saturday. This is a handicap race giving all Club Members the opportunity to be in the trophy mix. Members were also competing for the oldest trophy in the clubs cabinet.
Conditions were ideal on the course with it being fine, warm and little wind.

The 2017 Road Championship Marlborough Harrier Club was held at The Grovetown 10km circuit.
Weather conditions were perfect for road racing and most runners/walkers did personal bests over the course.
We had 4 non- members turn up for a run with one taking 1^st Open Men.

This event was held from Riverlands Community Hall taking in the Bike/Walk track to Cob Cottage plus and return.
Conditions were fine and warm but at times wet under foot.
Michael James and Jayden Lucas battled it out in the Boys 12 and under with Michael winning in 9.13 for 2km.
Leia Shaw who usually runs in the 7 and 10yrs and under ran the Girls 12 and under 2km course coming in at 11.36.
Jorja Bacchus took out the Girls 14 and under 3km in 15.26.
Gus Marfell and Hunter Bendell ran in the Boys 16 and under 5km with Gus in first in 19.20.
Anna Barnes took out the Girls 16 and under 5km in 25.38.
3 walkers took to the track with Alison Brooks coming in first = with Sheila Waters in 43.48.
3 runners took part in the Senior Men. Adam Baker first in 19.34 followed by Dale Smit 20.17 followed closely by Cameron Kain 20.20.
Megan Kain took out the Senior Women in 26.35.
Veteran Men was the largest field with Robbie Barnes 1st in 19.21, Ed Massey 2nd in 20.03 and Seb Bacchus 3rd in 20.56.
In the Veteran Women Tracey Sims came in 1st in 25.30, Serena Ibbotson 2nd in 25.51 and Wendy Gibson 3rd in 29.25.
These times will be used by the Handicappers when assessing times in the future handicapped road races.

Saturday 15th July – Jorja and Seb competed today over at Nelson at Branford Park in the Tasman Cross Country Champs. On a near perfect winters day, clear but cold out of the sun, much better than last year when it was raining and very slippery. Jorja won her U13 race, running the 2km in 8.19 min, that was nearly 2 minutes faster than last year. Jorja now holds the Tasman Cross Country and Athletics Champs for her age group. Seb had to run 8km which he did it in roughly 35min and coming in 4^th in his age group. Great day for running and these two ran really well.
