Para Swamp Run

April 26, 2022 by Les

Change of Venue for Saturday 30 Apr 2022

Due to a Calendar clash this weekend (30 Apr 22) with the Marlborough Car Club, who have a gravel sprint planned up the Pukaka Valley Road (Road will be intermittently closed throughout the day) we have gone with a swap on the Harriers Calendar with the Para Swamp Run.

Para Swamp Run.

This is the reason to come and run with the Harriers Club as we get access to private land on which to run events.  Come along to this run and bring your camera.  A Grand Old Duke of York course(i.e when you are up, you are up and when you are down, you are down) but finishing flat and fast depending on your selected course.  Superb views that very few will have seen before.  Courses are planned for Walkers (5 – 6 KM) and 3 runner courses. 5 -6 km, 8ish Km and an outstanding 10ish KM.  Come along and there is a strong possibility of a pit stop at the Grovetown Tavern on the way home for a lemonade.

Directions

from SH 1 at Tuamarina Historic Rest Area (The Wairau Incident) turn onto Bush Road heading West.  At the first T intersection turn right onto Parkes Road.  At the End of Parkes Road stop at the sign “Windermere Equestrian”.  From here we will go over private land in convoy.  The Convoy will leave Parkes Road at 1PM sharp! Any car will be fine to get to the start.

See Ya There

Queen Charlotte Relay – Postponed to 3 December 2022

March 24, 2022 by Kay Leach

You will be aware of the rain storms the Top of the South experienced July and August 2022. Considerable damage to roading and infrastructure occurred along the relay route Picton to Havelock.

We have been liaising with Marlborough Roads regularly in the hope our event could still take place.

The problems they have has been compounded by the damage to SH6 and SH63 which are important routes between Blenheim and Nelson not only for commerce but the ability for people to move around safely.

After inspecting the Queen Charlotte Drive by bike on Sunday and talking to Marlborough Roads on Monday a decision has been made to postponed the Queen Charlotte Relay until Saturday 3rd December 2022. A major factor is also we do not want to put unnecessary pressure on the contractors who are doing their best to get the roads open in a safe way to the general public (us).

We sincerely hope you understand the reasons for this decision and will continue to support Marlborough Harrier Club and Queen Charlotte Relay to the postponed date.

To those teams that have already entered and paid the entry fee we offer you the following choice:

  1. Entry withdrawn and entry fee $200 less administration fee $40 refunded back to the card the entry was paid by.
  1. You leave your entry intact for the postponement date 3rd December 2022. If electing this choice you can, prior to the new date, withdraw a leg runner and have a new leg runner/walker register in their place (no additional cost).

To allow us to complete the necessary administrative duties, if the team captain registered against a team can email qcr@harriers.net.nz quoting the team’s name and which choice 1 or 2.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Craig Harford (Race Convenor Queen Charlotte Relay 2022)
