Wet conditions greeted the runners and walkers who took part in the Fairhall Road Race on Saturday on the Ben Morven Circuit. The third to last event on the official calendar for the 2012 season, all grades started off on handicap.
Tom Burgess won the Annual Road Race 7 Mile Cup which is presented to the first Harrier Club member home in the main race, a distance of 9.2km. The cup dates back to 1933 and is believed to have been originally presented to the winner of the Renwick-Blenheim road race. Second place went to David Bendell who picked up the Veteran Fairhall Trophy (affectionately known as the Burglars Trophy) that is awarded annually to the first Veteran Man home.
Steve Olsen, Allister Leach and Rab Rodger rounded out the remaining top five placings overall. Robbie Barnes recorded the fastest actual time of 34 minutes and 22 seconds.
In the walking section Phillipa Hyndman crossed the line in first place ahead of her non-member father Barry. Kathryn Mann was third followed by Sheila Waters and Judith Hyndman. The latter recording the fastest actual time of 61 minutes and 26 seconds.
Winners in the junior grades were Lucy Bendell, Bailey McKay and Piers Landon-Lane.
Meanwhile it’s back to the drawing board for the club handicappers. All handicaps need to be reworked and adjusted ahead of the Prosser Cup in two weeks time.
