SUMMARY:Awatere Scenic Run - Black Birch Stream - was Seddon Scenic Run
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this very interesting event going to a place not many have been or run/walk from.\nAll meet 17.5km up the Awatere Road from SH1.\nLook for the Harrier sign. \nYou go as far as you want to go and return. \nPost run/walk stay for a chat over afternoon tea. Please bring a plate to share with others. \nBlack Birch Track is a walking and mountain biking track in the Awatere Valley within the Ferny Gair Conservation Area. Access is via public easement across farmland. The track follows Black Birch Stream north through scrub and then west through kanuka forest between the Black Birch and Blairich Ranges. From Awatere Valley Road to Black Birch Bivvy is about 9km. Hunting and dogs are permitted in the area with appropriate permission from DOC. Mountain biking is also a permitted activity in the area. \nThe initial parts of the track are relatively flat and suitable for all levels of fitness\, however there is a steep climb for the last 1.5km to Black Birch Bivvy\, which is situated at about 840m altitude. In addition to the main track it is also possible to make a short but steep climb up to Blairich Ridge from the start of the track.

DESCRIPTION:An earlier start for this event (12.00 pm). \n\nAll interested runners/walkers to meet at the Barnes Farm\, Marathon Downs\, 737 Marama Road\, Seddon (Look for the Harrier sign) at 12:00 ready for shuttle buses to transport all to the Ure Valley at 12.15.  We have van seats for 20ish including drivers.  If we get more than that then we will do more trips with the long runners heading off first. \n\n\nThis track is a Start to Finish run\, so vans will shuttle to the start and will have multiple pick ups from approx 4km point along the route depending on the distance you want to run. \n\n\nThe event will follow a track with multiple creek crossings (bring your running gumboots or your best rock hopping if you want dry feet). \n\n\nFrom this point people can choose to do any distance they chose and flag down a van when they have had enough\, but this is a beautiful course and expect most will not be picked up before 6 to 8km\, including the walkers.  The full course runs back to the Barnes Farm. \n\n\nPost run/walk stay for a chat over afternoon tea. Please bring a plate to share with others.
